Political and Community Engagement Organizer for UNITE HERE! Local 634
Full-time, On-site or hybrid.
Salary: USD $55,000 – $70,000 / year (Salary is competitive and based on multiple factors, which may include candidates’ prior work experience, skills, training, and/or other qualifications.)
Join our dedicated organizing team in the Philadelphia area! UNITE HERE! Local 634 represents the Food Service Workers and Student Climate Staff of the Philadelphia School District. The Political and Community Engagement Organizer will work closely with local leadership, political allies, and community partners to build power and opportunity for union growth for Cafeteria workers and Student Climate Staff in Philadelphia through political organizing and community engagement.
Job Responsibilities include*:
- Analyze local and state policy that impacts Local 634 workers and our organizing efforts.
- Engage in community partners and projects that impact our members in the Philadelphia area.
- Engage and organize with other Local unions, including other UNITE HERE Locals in Philadelphia and the surrounding area, and build partnerships with allies.
- Attend briefings and legislative meetings, including political fundraisers.
- Motivate and inspire union members who are primarily women and working-class people of color; engage them in political education and direct lobbying and actions.
- Represent UNITE HERE’s priorities in interactions with external as well as internal contacts at all levels of the organization.
- Develop reports and presentations.
- Occasionally coordinate meetings/conferences.
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
- 1-3 years in union, immigration rights or civil rights organizing and/or 1-3 years as union member building own union.
- Passion for and commitment to fighting for workers’ rights.
- Works independently, uses good judgment, and is adaptable to change.
- Willingness to work long hours and ability to work a flexible schedule.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a workload with competing priorities and deadlines in a fast- moving organization.
- Ability to travel locally and occasionally take short-term assignments away from home base to support political and union organizing campaigns.
- Spanish language skills highly desirable.

Salary: $55,000 – $70,000 range commensurate with experience. Includes Medical, Dental, Vision, and Pharmacy insurance through Unite Here Health; pension contributions; sick days, personal days, vacation days, and paid holidays; Work cellphone and laptop will be provided.
