32BJ SEIU has approximately 450 staff in sixteen offices from Boston to Miami. 32BJ SEIU represents over 185,000 property service workers including janitors, security officers, airport workers, and food service employees in eleven states and Washington, DC. 32BJ is an affiliate of SEIU, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which has two million members dedicated to raising industry standards and making life better for all working families and communities.
POSITON SUMMARY
We are seeking a committed and energetic Campaigns Field Representative (Cross-Functional) to help build worker power, strengthen union participation, and support strategic campaigns across our industries. Based in the Philadelphia area, this full-time role will be deployed across multiple campaigns—including Fightbacks, New Organizing, New Development, and Contract Campaigns—based on organizational needs.
This position is central to engaging both existing union members and non-union workers in the fight for better standards, fair treatment, and racial and economic justice. Campaigns Field Representatives spend the majority of their time in the field building relationships, identifying leaders, and mobilizing workers through direct engagement.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Conduct regular worksite visits, house calls, and small group meetings to engage workers and build relationships.
- Identify issues affecting workers and gather worksite intelligence, including monitoring employer behavior and reporting concerns.
- Identify, recruit, and develop shop stewards and worksite leaders; build strong worker committees.
- Engage existing union members to ensure they are informed, active, and connected to union programs and campaigns.
- Turn out workers to rallies, trainings, political actions, contract campaigns, and membership meetings.
- Conduct outreach to non-union workers, assess workplace conditions, educate on rights, and support organizing campaigns.
- Execute field assignments across campaigns and adapt quickly to shifting priorities and assignments.
- Make and execute weekly work plans; maintain accurate tracking of field activity and reporting.
- Distribute campaign materials and collect worker assessments and data.
- Coordinate and support actions including rallies, marches, demonstrations, and strikes.
- Expand the activist base of the union by connecting workers to ongoing organizing and leadership opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
While no candidate will possess every qualification, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:
- Experience in labor, community, or worker organizing.
- Strong communication skills and ability to build trust with workers from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated commitment to social, racial, and economic justice.
- Ability to lead, motivate, and develop members into active leaders.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and adapt to changing campaign needs.
- Comfort with digital tools, databases, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills strongly preferred.
Bilingual in Spanish (verbal and/or written) and English is strongly preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- This is a full-time, primarily field-based position with assignments that may shift based on campaign needs.
- Requires a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Frequent travel to worksites and events across the Philadelphia region; occasional overnight travel along the East Coast may be required.
- Valid driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle required.
- Ability to lift up to 15 lbs, navigate stairs, and participate in marches or demonstrations lasting several hours.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The salary for this role is $68,834, depending on experience. 32BJ offers a comprehensive benefits package including fully employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for full-time employees and their eligible dependents. Retirement benefits include a defined benefit pension plan and a 401(k). The Union currently offers a remote work policy of one remote day per week at the discretion of the manager.
