The Position:
The International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (BAC) is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant to join our team. This role is critical in ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and strong internal controls for multiple non-profit entities. The position oversees the full general ledger, components of the accounts payable process as well as fringe benefit payment processes. The ideal candidate will have strong technical accounting skills, a thorough understanding of GAAP, experience with non-profit accounting, and the ability to manage complex financial processes while collaborating across teams. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the technical accounting resource for multiple non-profit entities, ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare, view, and produce monthly financial statements, including cash activity, expense allocations, revenue accruals, and fringe benefit payments.
  • Coordinate Department of Labor (DOL) monthly grant payment submissions and perform reconciliations over multi-year (5-year) grant periods.
  • Consolidate and analyze related-entity financial statements, ensuring intercompany balances and eliminations are accurate.
  • Oversee and provide guidance to accounts payable support staff, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
  • Review and approve bank reconciliations, general ledger activity, and monthly close schedules.
  • Review journal entries, trial balances, and select cash receipts prepared by general accounting staff.
  • Collaborate with investment custodians and fiduciary managers on accounting valuation, and reporting of investment assets.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed workpapers in support of audits and government inquiries.
  • Review quarterly and year-end payroll reconciliations including Forms 941, 945, and W-2. 
  • Coordinate the annual audit process and serve as primary liaison with external auditors.
  • Review schedules and disclosures supporting audited financial statements.
  • Provide information for review and Form 990 filings.
  • Assist in strengthening internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills & Other Requirements:

  • BA/BS in Accounting required (CPA or CPA-eligible strongly preferred)
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a non-profit, governmental 
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including accrual accounting, entity consolidations, and financial statement preparation
  • Proficiency in computerized accounting systems and Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations) 
  • High attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to meet deadlines in a multi-entity environment
  • Experience with Form 990 preparation and/or review (preferred) as well as Form 941
  • Prior experience working with external auditors and government agencies (preferred)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

Salary Range: $135,000 – $140,000

Schedule: Monday to Friday
