California Nurses Association
National Nurses Organizing Committee

Community Organizer

An opening is anticipated in Florida or Texas
(travel may be required)

For far too long, the healthcare industry has ignored the needs of nurses. During their work lives, nurses at non-union hospitals are at the beck and call of the hospital 24 hours a day. At non-union hospitals, nurses have been forced to work mandatory overtime, even when they are so exhausted that patient care could suffer. When nurses from many non-union hospitals face retirement years, there is no pension plan. After nurses spend their entire work lives caring for others, when they retire from non-union hospitals, nurses are unable to afford adequate medical care themselves.

NNOC/CNA has won the best registered nurse contracts in the nation, with the protections of a pension plan; retiree health benefits; fair scheduling and shift differentials for weekend, and evening work; and an elected nurse committee to address workplace issues. NNOC/CNA has helped nurses to win a voice in patient care decisions, respect from management and empowerment of nurses.

An opening is anticipated in Florida, or Texas; travel may be required.

As a NNOC/CNA Community Organizer you would be responsible for helping to develop the union connections with community organizations for mutual support and political campaigns, including legislative initiatives. The RN workforce is 95% women and, depending on the facility, 20 to 90% nurses of color.

We are looking for organizers who have worked on NLRB elections, political campaigns and legislative initiatives, and community organizing experience. Community organizers should have demonstrated success at providing direction and leadership to other organizing staff.

Salary and Benefits: Depending on full time union staff experience, excellent salary. Top rate benefits package, family and domestic partner coverage.
