SEIU Local 509 is a fast growing, progressive union representing nearly 20,000 state workers, human service workers, higher education faculty and graduate student workers, and family childcare providers in Massachusetts.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Local 509 is hiring a full-time Deputy Legislative Director, based in our Marlborough, MA office (though currently remote). Along with other union staff and leaders, the Deputy Legislative Director will assist in the coordination and implementation of a broad spectrum of legislative, budget, and political advocacy.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
- Will help coordinate and implement SEIU Local 509 legislative program, including tracking legislation and line items.
- Will support SEIU Local 509 member leaders, chapters, and committees in advancing their legislative/budget priorities.
- Will represent the union at various coalition tables.
- Will design, lead, and participate in trainings for members, particularly in the areas of lobbying and testifying before committees.
- Will lead lobbying efforts of the union.
- Other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 2-3 years’ experience in Massachusetts politics and/or the labor movement, with time preferably spent in the Massachusetts State House and/or lobbying in Massachusetts.
- Demonstrated writing ability and the ability to communicate union’s goals, particularly with respect to growing and increasing member participation in political campaigns and lobbying efforts.
- Ability to speak and present to various size audiences.
- Strong computer skills.
- Willingness to work nights and weekends, including travel throughout the state and some out of state travel.
- Commitment to progressive social change.
SUPERVISION
The Deputy Legislative Director works under the supervision of the Legislative & Political Director.
SALARY & BENEFITS
Salary range of $73,666 – $83,619, depending on experience. Generous leave and benefits package.
