Regional Coordinator

The Oregon AFL-CIO is seeking a full-time Regional Coordinator to help build power for working people statewide, primarily through political mobilization and support of local labor movements and allied coalitions.

The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to foster coordination and cooperation among diverse groups with varied priorities. They will be committed to getting results in a fast-paced environment and able to handle a heavy workload without dropping the ball. About the Oregon AFL-CIO
The Oregon AFL-CIO is the statewide federation of labor unions, representing over 300,000 working Oregonians. Our mission is to improve the lives of our members and all workers, and to raise the standard of living for all Oregonians through collective bargaining, advocacy, and political education and outreach.

Job Responsibilities
The Regional coordinator, who is based in Oregon and works remotely for the time being, is responsible for the following:

  • Representing the interests of the Oregon AFL-CIO (its officers, staff, and affiliates) and its regional Central Labor Chapters across the state
  • Acting as liaison between the Oregon AFL-CIO and Central Labor Chapters
  • Supporting the Oregon Strong Voice (OSV) program – local networks for community-labor alliances
  • Working with the Oregon AFL-CIO, Chapters and OSV to identify and support political and legislative priorities in all levels of government
  • Leading the Path to Power program to recruit, train, and elect union members to local government offices
  • Engaging in the electoral process by organizing phone banks, canvasses, and forums to support chapter-endorsed candidates.
  • Supporting affiliate priorities, including organizing and collective bargaining campaigns

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of and passion for the labor movement
  • Strong commitment to economic, racial, and gender justice
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and leadership skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to work independently while also having a positive, team-player attitude
  • Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
  • Political knowledge and familiarity with canvassing, phone banking, and grassroots field mobilization
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle
  • Proficiency with technology, including social media, video conferencing, excel, google docs, and VAN
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Willingness to travel regularly across the state once deemed safe and appropriate
  • Excellent references
  • Live and/or have roots in Oregon

Preferred Skills

  • Experience within the labor movement
  • Experience with political campaigns
  • Experience building and facilitating coalitions
  • Experience organizing events and actions
  • Fluency in Spanish
