Who you are:

  • A skilled campaigner and communicator who knows what it takes to win high-stakes legislative campaigns.
  • An ace writer and media strategist with a knack for sharp, compelling writing—from attention-grabbing press releases to persuasive op-eds, pitches, and talking points.
  • A newshound with a proven track record of pitching and placing media at the highest levels.
  • A progressive strategist with experience moving legislation at the local, state, and national level
  • A mission-driven strategist who’s dedicated to criminal justice reform, ideally with relevant agency, advocacy, and / or journalism experience.
  • A proven leader and manager with experience developing talent and leading teams to hit deadlines, produce exceptional work, and have fun doing it.
  • What you will be doing:
  • Planning and executing high-impact national communications campaigns with Agency leadership and our national criminal justice reform clients.
  • Managing media relations and strategy nationally and in key states for groundbreaking efforts to reduce over-incarceration.
  • Writing and producing top-notch communications materials that move public opinion and get results.

Your experience:

  • At least 7-9 years of PR/communications experience in advocacy, agency, government or journalism role ideally focused on criminal justice reform or other pressing racial and social justice issues
  • Demonstrated ability to drive high-impact media campaigns and generate high-value placements in major media for social justice causes.
  • Deeply familiar with the communications tactics necessary for moving legislation at the local, state, and national level
  • Proven track record conceiving and landing trend stories, features, process stories, profiles, and more in support of social justice causes and campaigns
  • Eager to make a difference for the public good.
  • Demonstrated history of working in support of progressive causes.
  • Demonstrated commitment to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
  • Client management and client relations experience a plus.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Effectiveness at solving problems, whether taking charge independently or working with a team.
  • History of overseeing and managing a team

The current minimum starting salary offer for this position is $72,500. The current maximum starting salary offer for this position is $104,999. Starting salary offer amounts are furnished at the discretion of the agency with adherence to contractually guaranteed minimum pay rates and are also based on the relevant experience level of the applicant and on agency hiring needs. 617MediaGroup is proud to be a union shop and 617MediaGroup employees are covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
