School Site Organizer

Duties:

  • Make convincing and effective “sales” presentations on the phone. To get a liberal or conservative school administrator to do a progressive act requires good selling ability. To get someone to join your organization requires the same.
  • Carry out in-person meetings that “close the deal”
  • Coordinate dynamic classes on weekends
  • Model an authentically critical spirit
  • Inspire excellence in others
  • Organize adult and youth testimony at legislative bodies

Requirements:

  • One (1) year of experience working in campaign or union organizing, or as a legislative assistant/aide to elected officials, or in a similar outreach environment.
  • Live within South King County or the greater Tacoma area.
  • A driver’s license, a car, automobile insurance on that vehicle, and phone.
  • Work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Capacity to travel. Expenses covered.
  • Work with races and ages different than one’s own
  • Personal commitment to justice for working people
  • Strong self-initiative, outgoing attitude
  • Model self-change and demonstrate personal transformation
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to lift 10 pounds

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in positions with the following types of employers is highly valued: electoral campaigns, elected officials, labor unions, progressive issue advocacy organizations, social justice organizations, for instance as a legislative aid, labor rep, shop steward, or similar.
  • Bilingual or multilingual ability is an asset.

Salary, Benefits:
Salary $54,000/year plus benefits comprehensive fully paid medical and dental benefits for employee after three months, pension after one year, and mileage reimbursement. All travel costs paid for travelling during classes.
