The Colorado Education Association is seeking qualified applicants for a Membership Dues Accountant. The role requires a strong accounting background with advanced skills in accounting software and Excel.

Essential Qualifications for Position:

  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communications
  • Ability to gather and organize information, develop report formats, etc.
  • Proficiency in various computer technologies in a Windows-based PC environment
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Effective records maintenance skills
  • Ability to expand knowledge and skills in a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to complete multiple projects with shifting priorities and to meet deadlines under pressure
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision
  • Ability to provide support to exempt staff and/or manager as required by the assignment
  • Excellent telephone skills

Essential Qualifications for Assignment:

  • Must be highly organized with an ability to prioritize and handle concurrent tasks with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Minimum three years’ experience and/or formal education in accounting, with understanding of adherence to GAAP; accounts receivable experience preferred; high level proficiency in the use of accounting software packages such as QuickBooks and PeopleSoft
  • Advanced competency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel including pivot tables; in addition, intermediate to advanced knowledge of Access desirable
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • An understanding about issues related to systemic racism and social justice and a commitment/willingness to learn more

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of or experience with labor unions

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the statewide membership transaction cycle processed through the database system including, but not limited to, enrollments, renewals, changes and cancellations
  • Serve as a state liaison for the membership database system to CEA staff, NEA and field unit offices
  • Maintain dues accounting records in the membership system in coordination with NEA membership, CEA and local staff to ensure accuracy of data, continuity of processing, development of membership reports and delivery of membership information requests
  • Produce custom reports upon request from the MRA-COGNOS System
  • Assist members, leaders and staff in matters related to dues reconciliation, billing and demographic data
  • Assist in training staff in the use of the membership system
  • Assure accuracy of the membership database and reconcile monthly dues obligation adjustments and cancellations
  • Distribute NEA generated monthly dues statements to each local association by the 10th of each month
  • Monitor all local associations’ records of payments to assure compliance with CEA and NEA bylaws and affiliation requirements
  • Communicate with local associations not in compliance with dues payment transmittals and work with management to resolve dues payment issues
  • Monitor all electronic funds transfer (EFT) payments from individual members
  • Process cash receipts and local bank deposits in the Funds Receivable System (FRS)
  • Process check requests to all local associations, including retired locals, requiring disbursement and local EFT memberships
  • Timely recording of dues payments in the Funds Receivable System
  • Track and make adjustments in the Funds Receivable System for any deposit returns
  • Prepare and import monthly journal entries
  • Verify the transactions posted in PeopleSoft are properly recorded and in compliance with the US GAAP
  • Generate monthly dues receivable report with aging schedule
  • Verify and enter all future year membership information to the membership database in preparation for the rollover of membership in July of each year
  • Provide support to the annual CEA audit
  • Provide support to the CEA Delegate Assembly
  • Provide support to member/leader groups as assigned
  • Provide support for organizing and capacity building efforts with leaders, members and staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Compensation and Benefits
This is a non-exempt, Tier 2 bargaining unit position with a salary range of $42,480 – $68,400 based upon prior experience and qualifications. A fringe benefits package is provided as defined in the collective bargaining agreement, including health, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k) plan, and paid sick, personal, and vacation leave.
