The Colorado Education Association is seeking qualified applicants for a Business Office/Accounting Support vacancy. The role requires experience in accounting and overall business office support. In addition to accounting responsibilities, the selected candidate will be able to handle front desk duties and operational support in a dynamic environment.

Essential Qualifications for Position:

  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communications
  • Ability to gather and organize information, develop report formats, etc.
  • Proficiency in various computer technologies in a Windows-based PC environment
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Effective records maintenance skills
  • Ability to expand knowledge and skills in a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to complete multiple projects with shifting priorities and to meet deadlines under pressure
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision
  • Ability to provide support to exempt staff and/or manager as required by the assignment
  • Excellent telephone skills

Essential Qualifications for Assignment:

  • Must be highly organized with an ability to prioritize and handle concurrent tasks
  • Demonstrated customer service skills
  • Proven computer skills with excellent efficiency and accuracy
  • Competency in Microsoft Office applications with advanced skills in Word and Excel; in addition, intermediate to advanced knowledge of Access desirable
  • Minimum three years general accounting experience, with formal education in accounting preferred
  • An understanding about issues related to systemic racism and social justice and a commitment/willingness to learn more

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of or experience with labor unions

Job Responsibilities:

Accounting Support

  • Prepare Retired Members Financial Reporting
  • Generate accounts receivable and other billings; provide follow-up on outstanding receivables over thirty (30) days
  • Assist Dues Accountant in collecting unpaid dues over sixty (60) days and in responding to general member dues questions
  • Assist in processing member dues credit card payments
  • Monitor membership dues credit card payments processed through Authorize.net and post payments to the Funds Receivable System (FRS)
  • Prepare and upload dues related journal entries into PeopleSoft
  • Work collaboratively with Accounts Payable to update and maintain the fixed asset system (Sage)
  • Assist with membership updates in the CEA membership system
  • Maintain inventory and reporting of CEA office supplies and assist with filling approved orders

CEA Front Desk Duties

  • Greet CEA visitors and direct them to the appropriate location in the CEA building
  • Answer and route incoming calls to the CEA main numbers
  • Assist with scheduling of CEA meeting rooms
  • Assist with hotel reservations for leaders and members as needed
  • Produce parking stickers and building access cards as directed by management and maintain associated records
  • Assist with daily and special mailings, package shipments, and production of large copying jobs
  • Assist in organizing recycling services for the CEA building
  • Maintain inventory of CEA office supplies and assist with filling approved orders of supplies
  • Provide support to member/leader groups as assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Compensation and Benefits
This is a non-exempt, Tier 2 bargaining unit position with a salary range of $42,480 – $68,400 based upon prior experience and qualifications. A fringe benefits package is provided as defined in the collective bargaining agreement, including health, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k) plan, and paid sick, personal, and vacation leave.
