Quality Improvement and Patient Care Fund Coordinator

Based in Los Angeles, CA

The Committee of Interns and Residents, the largest resident physicians’ union in the country, is looking for a Part Time (25-30 hours) Quality Improvement and Patient Care Fund Coordinator based in Los Angeles, California). This position has the responsibility of meeting the goal to align CIR members and their teaching hospital employers behind the goal of providing safe, effective and efficient patient care as well as assist residents in procuring hospital equipment necessary in improving patient care that would not be otherwise acquired by their training institution.

Job Summary:
The Quality Improvement Coordinator and Patient Care Fund (PCF) coordinator is to assist with the implementation of quality improvement (QI) and patient safety (PS) programs and oversee the distribution of the Patient Care Fund that total over $2.5 million dollars each fiscal year.

Job Responsibilities:
I would break the responsibilities into subheaders with the different kinds of role, like “coordinating fund,” “community organizing,” and “office support”

Fund Coordination

  • Work with CIR members and hospital employers to implement quality improvement and patient safety projects
  • Work proactively with members and hospital employers to identify and remove barriers to QI/PS project implementation and avoid delays in the procurement of approved fund items.
  • Organize members around quality improvement and patient safety projects, and coordinate acquisition of equipment through the PCF.
  • Create and teach education programs to enhance members’ knowledge of and engagement with quality improvement topics and projects.
  • Develop relationships with QI/patient safety, health care policy and provider communities to learn about best practices and publicize CIR members’ work on quality improvement.
  • Develop relationships with hospital administration such as Supply Chain Operations and Information Services to obtain necessary pre-approvals and ensure smooth and timely procurement of approved PCF items.

Office Support

  • Maintain supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies
  • Troubleshoot any office issues i.e. internet, telephones, photocopier, etc.,

Qualifications

  • Have a complete understanding of resident work life, structure of training programs, terminology, and role within the hospital.
  • Familiarity with QI and patient safety concepts, tools and practices in clinical academic medicine.
  • Ability to understand and critically analyze clinical and policy-related studies and journal articles.
  • Ability to conceptualize and carry out a clinical QI project, collect data and publish.
  • Ability to understand the application and procurement procedure for hospital equipment and provide training and technical assistance to resident applicants.

Requirements:

  • Mastery of basic statistics and related software such as Microsoft Excel.
  • Desire to develop one’s own skills, acquire knowledge and proactively seek opportunities to learn.
  • Ability to work well in teams.
  • Effective and appropriate communication with potential members, staff, administrators, and supervisors.
  • Effective written and verbal communications and presentation skills

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in clinical medicine, hospital operations or public health
  • Some experience in community or political organizing
  • Familiarity with statistics, quantitative and qualitative research
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple tasks and think critically
  • Desire to independently acquire job knowledge
  • Effective written and oral communication
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple tasks and think critically.

CIR Offers:

  • $38.43 per hour for this position
