Strategic Campaigner

Climate Jobs National Resource Center (CJNRC) is united around a shared goal of combating climate change while reversing income inequality. CJNRC’s mission is to advocate for a clean energy economy at the scale climate science demands, create good union jobs, and support more equitable communities. CJNRC works with unions across the U.S. to form their own state-based, labor only Climate Jobs coalitions to address the growing climate crisis and the rising economic disparities by creating family-sustaining clean energy jobs. CJNRC provides strategic and technical support to these state-led Climate Jobs coalitions to develop action plans specific to their states to create good, clean jobs, organize union members around the plan, and develop a strategic campaign to win its implementation.

With a new federal administration taking office there is an opportunity for federal stimulus and executive action focused on sustainable infrastructure and clean energy. The Strategic Campaigner will support our state coalition efforts to build crucial support from the bottom up for necessary state and federal action on climate change and good jobs. The Strategic Campaigner will report to the CJNRC Director of Strategic Campaigns and will work closely with other CJNRC national staff and state coalition members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with CJNRC staff and state coalitions to develop state plans for sustainable infrastructure and clean energy investment with concrete labor standards
  • Review potential local, state and federal funding sources, incentives and other policy mechanisms that could be leveraged to support these state infrastructure and clean energy investment plans
  • Work with CJNRC state coalitions to develop campaign strategy to win implementation of sustainable infrastructure and clean energy investment priorities
  • Work with state coalitions on research and development of materials to support state campaigns
  • Provide ongoing campaign support to CJNRC state coalitions

Qualifications:

  • A strong commitment to progressive social change, racial justice, a familiarity with the issues that are central to CJNRC’s work and vision.
  • 2-3 years of experience working on strategic campaigns, policy or research for unions or other advocacy organizations
  • Excellent strategic and comprehensive campaigning skills
  • Familiarity with corporate research, financial analysis, employment law or investigative journalism
  • Strong technical research skills and ability to apply research to development of strategic organizing campaigns
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in politically sensitive and high-pressure environments
  • Demonstrated commitment to community and/or labor organizing
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with organizers
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Willingness to travel extensively when it is safe to do so
  • Willingness to work remotely
  • Effective time management skills, including prioritizing and managing multiple tasks, with light supervision
