Warehouse Workers for Justice (WWJ) is a worker center fighting for good, living wage jobs among the thousands of transportation and logistics workers in the Chicago area, the largest intermodal logistics hub on the planet. Our work blends union and worker’ center models, focusing on long-term leadership development, alliances with community organizations, and development of innovative organizing tactics.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise a team of field organizers who will engage in extensive worker outreach
- Experience developing and executing field plan
- Experience assisting field staff in developing field plan
- Experience debriefing staff and in developing raps
- Grow and guide WWJ leadership committees
- Conduct worker outreach efforts
- Lead one-on-one and group meetings with workers
- Identify and develop workplace leaders
- Motivate workers to take action
- Build worker committees
- Develop and carry out strategies to achieve workplace victories
- Maintain accurate information on worksites and campaign activities
- Gather information necessary for enforcement of labor laws
- Build community support for warehouse workers’ struggles
- Overseeing and developing workplace organizing strategies
- Staff Development and Training
Requirements:
- Previous organizing supervisory experience preferred
- Ability to make and execute a workplan
- Ability to work independently
- Willingness to work long hours, including nights and weekends
- A working vehicle and a valid drivers’ license
- Basic computer and writing skills
- A strong commitment to social justice
- Spanish speaking preferred
Salary 55-65k a year depending on experience. Benefits and car allowance are provided.
