Digital Organizer
Remote – but based out of Chicago
The Pandemic Organizing Initiative, a joint project of Warehouse Workers for Justice (WWJ) and the UE Research and Education Fund (UEREF) is seeking a Digital Organizer to support the growing movement of workers organizing to win safety protections and fair pay during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Warehouse Workers for Justice is a worker center fighting for good, living wage jobs among the thousands of transportation and logistics workers in the Chicago area, the largest intermodal logistics hub on the planet. Our work blends union and worker’ center models, focusing on long-term leadership development, alliances with community organizations, and development of innovative organizing tactics.
The UE Research and Education Fund offers training and resources to workers who are directly impacted by the current economic crisis resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. From demanding enhanced worker protections and more paid leave to shutting down unsafe workplaces and getting access to needed benefits, UEREF educates workers on the best ways to win the safety and economic protections they deserve.
Job Responsibilities:
- Create and drive a digital organizing strategy that advances campaign goals;
- Manage and maintain robust presence on all digital platforms including email, social media and website, producing compelling, timely content
- Develop strategies aimed at targeting, building and retaining membership segments based on issue, campaign, demographic and other variables to deepen activism and engagement among members with specific interests
- Reach out to potential supporters online, engaging them in organizing conversations and developing their leadership;
- In collaboration with organizing staff, use social media, email, online advertising and other digital tools to develop online-to-offline organizing programs
- Track worker engagement across digital channels and utilize analysis for audience understanding, targeting and refinement.
- Develop and execute digital worker rights education program
- Write as needed for online ads, video scripts, websites, SMS, and email.
- Use analytics to improve our messaging, programs and campaign to strengthen impact;
- Train and advise staff on digital communications strategy and social media best practices.
Experience/Qualifications:
- Thorough knowledge of digital communications strategy and tactics to support advocacy driven campaigns, audience acquisition efforts, and earned media and paid media efforts.
- Knowledge of trends of digital organizing, and of best practices for communicating via email, Facebook and Twitter.
- Excellent writer, able to write concisely, clearly and quickly.
- Technologically savvy and able to learn how to use new databases, online platforms, etc. relatively quickly.
- Ability to operate in coordination with other team members and organize time with independence.
- Ability to handle multiple “priorities” assignments simultaneously and meet established deadlines.
- Attention to detail and strong project-management skills.
Salary is between $48,000 and $55,000 depending on experience. Benefits provided.
