Location: Headquarters – Washington, DC
United Staff Union – Grade 8
Starting Salary: $76,115
This position in the Data & Analytics Department is responsible for completing tasks related to assisting in the development, implementation and maintenance of data relating to the work of the Political Action Departments. This position also will work with affiliates and internal teams to report and monitor systems relating to political data.
DUTIES:
- Work with Field Data Coordinators and DBAs to help affiliates and the Political Action Department to administer, support, and train users on organizing and engagement systems for political use (VAN, MiniVAN, and other on-line and mobile systems).
- Creates universes for political mail, canvass, and digital campaigns and may provide recommendations on targeting.
- Build dashboards and reports to monitor and evaluate performance of political campaigns as needed.
- System Administrator for VAN and EveryAction database software.
- Assist PAC team with EveryAction data auditing & monitoring on a regular basis.
- Generate targeted voter/member contact strategies for fundraising programs including mail, on-line and phone.
- Maintain historical data resources for reference.
- May coordinate with vendors on system needs, data extraction, and other programmatic requirements.
- Provides targeting and reporting support to all AFSCME teams and departments that are running digital campaigns.
- Manipulates voter, membership, volunteer and other databases.
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with course work in a related field with a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in labor, political or community organizing; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provide the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
Skills
- Commitment to the union and its mission.
- Thorough experience with Structured Query Language (SQL) and constructing queries.
- Thorough Excel skills and experience with database platforms like Microsoft Access.
- Familiarity with NGPVAN and related tools, ideally including prior VAN Admin experience.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to communicate technical subjects to non–technical individuals both verbally and in writing.
- Experience with systems design.
- Experience with programming languages for analysis such as R and Python a plus
- Ability to assess and appropriately respond to information requests.
- Ability to manage several tasks/projects concurrently, prioritize work effectively and work under pressure.
- Exposure to labor, political or community organizing.
- Effective analytical skills.
- Experience in the use of data and analytics to drive effective decision-making.
Travel, Driving & Work hours:
- Extensive travel, extended work hours are possible.
- Valid driver’s license required.
