Learning Community Coordinator – EARN Team
Economic Analysis and Research Network
(EARN)

Based in Washington, DC

About the Economic Analysis and Research Network (EARN): EARN is a nationwide network of state-based research, policy, and advocacy organizations advancing an inclusive, worker-centered economy through state and local policy change and rigorous research. We are the progressive economic policy and research infrastructure in the states, conducting research, providing data analysis, and developing and advocating policies that confront the fundamental imbalances in the workplace in order to create an economy that works for all of us, not just the wealthy. A core part of the Economic Policy Institute (EPI), EARN is a growing network of 55 research, policy, and advocacy organizations in 43 states around the country and the District of Columbia. The EARN network is coordinated by staff at the Economic Policy Institute and EARN partners.

EPI seeks a dynamic and skilled person to join our EARN team as the EARN Learning Community Coordinator. This individual will build and strengthen our current conferences, convenings, and webinars. Together, this work connects EARN groups across the country with grassroots and labor partners and other state, local and national allies, so they can share best research, policy, and advocacy practices for advancing worker, racial, and gender justice policies and campaigns. We are seeking someone with 3 to 5 years’ experience working on economic, racial, or gender justice issues, with strong organizational, logistics, and project management skills, a commitment to collective bargaining, worker power, and gender and racial justice, and a deep understanding of the role structural racism plays in economic outcomes. Both a strong grasp of and proficiency in handling logistics and a deep interest in and knowledge of state-level economic justice policy campaigns are essential for this position.

What You Will Do
Working in close coordination with the rest of the EARN team, you will lead the design and implementation of EARN’s conferences, convenings, webinars, and peer exchanges to share research, policy, and advocacy strategies and best practices in order to advance economic, gender and racial justice policies and campaigns. In this position, you will:

  • Engage EARN groups and partners across the country and explore and implement new methods (including but not limited to technology tools) to make both virtual and in-person learning and strategy development more engaging for the network.
  • Lead the planning and coordination of EARNCon, EARN’s annual national conference, as well as the convenings for EARN’s core initiatives: EARN in the Midwest, EARN in the South, and the Worker Power Project. Create and convene a planning committee of EARN groups and allies from around the country. Working closely with the EARN team, you will develop the themes, agendas, and formats for the events; invite and prepare speakers; prepare resources and background materials; facilitate some sessions and discussions; staff conferences; and lead sessions to debrief and evaluate the success of the events.
  • Help facilitate various internal EARN team meetings and retreats.
  • Work closely with the EARN Communications Coordinator to ensure key learnings, best practices, and victories are shared with the network and allies.
  • Represent EARN/EPI in outreach activities to EARN partners, allies, and vendors.
  • Build, organize and maintain resource libraries on the EARN website and listserv platform. You will review resource materials and develop tagging and other methodologies to improve search results and facilitate member access to resources.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Who You Are
Ideally, you have 3–5 years’ experience. We do not expect that every candidate will have this full range of experience, but the following qualities and experience are highly desirable:

  • Experience with and demonstrated commitment to economic justice, building power with workers and collective bargaining, and racial and gender equity
  • A campaigner’s or organizer’s mindset and a love of learning
  • Experience with state-level policy campaigns
  • Extremely strong demonstrated project management skills, the ability to manage several projects at once, and the flexibility to adapt to a changing landscape
  • Strong facilitation skills; demonstrated skill at encouraging thoughtful discussion and building community
  • Familiarity with a diverse set of economic, gender, and racial justice policy issues
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently, but also able to collaborate and work as part of a team and with diverse partners
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the demonstrated ability to drive projects to completion
  • Ability to represent the organization at meetings and events
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience working in a labor union, advocacy organization focused on economic justice, workers’ rights, or gender and racial justice
  • Experience planning virtual and in-person events or convenings that intentionally incorporate diversity, equity, inclusion, and culture into design
  • Experience using the Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of WordPress a bonus
  • Willingness and ability to handle occasional long hours and travel
