Facility Maintenance Worker

AFSCME Local Unions in Southern California are joined together in AFSCME District Council 36 to provide professional field representation, coordinated contract campaigns, political action and organizing. The Local Unions affiliated with AFSCME District Council 36 represent more than 25,000 public sector workers in 60+ Local Unions. Members in affiliated Local Unions work for county governments, cities, courts, school districts, special governmental districts, and transportation agencies.

AFSCME District Council 36 is seeking candidates for a full time Facility Maintenance Worker opening. The Facility Maintenance worker is responsible for performing basic facility maintenance tasks such as:

• Light Plumbing
• Light Electrical
• Janitorial tasks
• Pest Control
• Light landscaping
• Preventative Maintenance
• Light Vehicle Maintenance

Ideal candidate will be detail oriented, committed to accuracy, a team player and have prior substantive work experience in the above noted tasks. Must be able to work independently, organize, and prioritize workload efficiently. Excellent attendance is required; must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, have a valid CA driver’s license, able to use hand and power tools, familiar with workplace safety such as OSHA. Prior experience in facility maintenance is required. Completion of a maintenance curriculum is preferred.

Work location will be at 514 Shatto Place, Los Angeles until January 2021 and 3375 Slauson Vernon thereafter. Schedule is Tue-Sat, 9am to 5pm with occasional overtime. Alternate schedule may be considered.

Benefits include generous health, dental, life insurance, long term disability insurance, as well as accidental death & dismemberment insurance. Vacation, sick, and pension (once vested), is also offered in addition to regular salary increases. Salary range has been established at $20 to $23 per hour, depending upon experience.
