BOLD Center Director

Based in Washington, DC

About Service Employees International Union and the BOLD Center
Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is a dynamic and progressive labor union, based in Washington, DC. SEIU represents more than 1.9 million workers in healthcare, public services and property services. SEIU members belong to 150 local union affiliates across the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.

SEIU is committed to achieving its vision of a just society, in which all workers are valued and all people are respected—no matter where we come from or what color we are; where all families and communities can thrive; and to leaving a better and more equitable world for generations to come. In order to achieve this vision, SEIU is committed to waging and winning breakthrough organizing campaigns, joining in a wider movement to create a more inclusive, multi-racial democracy, and creating a more leader-rich, powerful 21st century union.

SEIU believes that in order to win economic justice, SEIU must win racial justice, and is committed to becoming an anti-racist organization. SEIU uses its voice and power to fight for change across connected issues of worker rights, wealth and income inequality, racial justice, immigration, access to quality and affordable health care, and climate change.

The BOLD (Building Organization Leadership Development) Center serves as an internal organization development consulting team for SEIU and its local union affiliates throughout the US and Canada. The BOLD Center uses its unique position as an in-house consulting group to support organizational change initiatives in local unions and at the International Union by:

  • Sponsoring leadership development programs for high-level elected and staff leaders, including a long-standing leadership development cohort program in partnership with Rockwood Leadership Institute.
  • Supporting organizational change, strategic planning and visioning, team development and other organization development initiatives in local unions and the International Union.
  • Supporting transformation efforts to become an anti-racist organization committed to ending anti-Black and structural racism. bullets

The BOLD Center engages the expertise of a pool of about forty organizational development consultants and coaches to support this leadership development, change management, team development and organizational equity and inclusion work throughout the union.

A full-time staff of four within the BOLD Center recruits and manages the pool of consultants and coaches to needs and assigns them to projects based on an assessment of what different SEIU clients need. The staff also works to ensure that work addressing the needs and priorities of local unions is connected to SEIU’s overall strategy.

SEIU is an inclusive organization and is striving to be an anti-racist organization. We believe that systems and structures that support white supremacy hurt all of us, particularly people of color, people from working class backgrounds, differently abled people, women, and LGBTQ+ people. We believe that these communities must be centered in the work we do. Hence, we strongly encourage applications from people with these identities or who are members of other marginalized communities.
