The United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) Legal Department has a rare opening for a Staff Attorney in its headquarters office. The UMWA relies on its legal staff to further the Union’s historic mission as a progressive force for change. The law practice is varied, and includes a wide range of matters, including enforcing collective bargaining agreements; organizing; work preservation; collective bargaining; safety and health; bankruptcy; internal union affairs; and general legal matters. The Legal Department is regularly involved in significant litigation in federal and state courts, as well as before administrative agencies, and also helps the Union with its legislative and political activities. The UMWA’s Legal Department is small, collegial and staffed by lawyers who are dedicated to improving the working lives of our members.

The office is located in the Washington, DC metro area, 19 miles south of the I-495 Beltway, in Triangle, VA.
