Annual Salary: $84,466

Purpose:
The Operations Manager is responsible for a broad range of financial and administrative functions for the Midwest/State Power Department including managing subsidies and contracts for campaigns, tracking campaign budgets and expenses, handling logistics for meetings and travel, and providing scheduling and other staffing support for the Director of the Department.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides scheduling and other staff support for the Director of the Midwest/State Power Department.
  • In support of the Midwest/State Power program, provides financial management to the campaign including monthly reports on the organizing campaign budget, spending, and analysis.
  • Manages budgets for campaigns, processes check requests and monthly subsidies and contracts, oversees monthly invoices and billable transactions, and tracks campaign expenses.
  • Tracks information on campaign budgets, spending, and state
  • Provides guidance and best practices for campaign budgets and reporting.
  • Provides administrative support to various staff on the team.
  • Develops and maintains processes, protocols, and systems to track and store critical information related to the campaigns and overall function of the department.
  • Provides logistical support to the department for staff meetings, key events, and assists campaigns with booking local travel.
  • Orders and maintains all inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of the work of the department.

Direction and Decision Making:
This position reports to the Midwest/State Power Director and works closely with the Midwest/State Power Program Manager.

Education and Training:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. At least three (3) years’ experience working with financial data, logistics, or campaigns. Labor movement experience is a plus.

  • Knowledge of labor unions and organizing and/or electoral campaigns.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to create and analyze financial reports.
  • Thorough knowledge of standard financial practices.
  • Knowledge and understanding of SEIU’s travel and expense policies.
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office software, Google Apps, and SEIU Financial software.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision to accomplish goals and objectives.
  • Ability to use high level judgment and demonstrate leadership qualities.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and develop and maintain relationships with all levels of staff both at headquarters and in the field.
  • Skilled in supervising, supporting and developing staff to high performance
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse groups of people with patience and flexibility. Ability to communicate well and efficiently, both orally and in writing, with leaders, staff, and vendors.
  • Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated and self-reliant, with the ability to be flexible and take initiative while performing well within a team. Must have demonstrated ability to manage own work and work of others without supervision.

Physical Requirements:
Work is generally performed in an office setting but may require work in other settings conducive to performing the task required to complete assignments. Some travel may be required.
