Print Shop Technician

Based in Canton, MA

This position is responsible for operating the MNA print shop to ensure the timely production of the highest quality products to support the MNA communications. The print shop operator produces all phases of graphic materials, assembles and distributes the materials and assists in carrying out other functions.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates machinery and technology associated with the MNA print shop including: The Heidelberg Quickmaster DI Pro Spot 46-4, Polar 78x Paper Cutter, Copier, 2 Tower Bourg Booklet Maker, Stahlfolder B-20-USA-44P, HP Designjet Z5400 Large format printer. And Knowledge of Digital Print equipment, Xerox Versant 180 press or similar equipment, and electronic mail processing. Coordinates the production and planning of print press, paper cutter, folder, high speed copier, collator, binding equipment, and electronic mail processing.
  • Coordinates the production and planning of print shop jobs in concert with the Associate Director for Production and Graphic Services, the Division Director, and other MNA staff as required.
  • Prioritize, schedule, organize, and complete all print shop assignments to meet deadlines.
  • Applies knowledge to determine and ensure the quality of finished product.
  • Analyze print shop operations and recommend methods and processes to improve productivity and quality.
  • Act as a resource to the Division of Communications, other divisions and members to address and resolve inquiries or problems.
  • Works with Director, Associate Director for Print Production and Manager, Division of Operations to develop and upon approval, implement the print shop budget.
  • Maintain technical competency and remain current in technology and changes in the industry.
  • Ensure the completion of all required records, paperwork, documents, etc. related to the functioning of the print shop and related activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and work rules and regulations.
  • Trains other personnel on equipment as requested.
  • Performs routine preventive and corrective equipment maintenance on printing, assembly and related equipment; works with suppliers and vendors to maintain proper functioning of all equipment.
  • Works with Director of Operations to monitor and maintain proper inventory of needed paper, inks, and other supplies required for operation of the print shop.
  • Lifts and delivers printed materials, supplies and purchase goods required.
  • Participates in MNA staff meetings, serves on staff committees as requested, and submits activity reports in a timely manner.
  • Participates and assists the Board of Directors (and other structural units) as assigned by the Director.
  • Assists and participates in MNA Conventions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains positive interdepartmental and intradepartmental communications.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma; Technical/vocational training in print press operation/production preferred.
  • Five to seven years of printing and related experience
  • Able to accurately distinguish color variation
  • Familiarity with all phases of print production, press room operations, experience with Heidelberg equipment preferred.
  • Familiarity with assembly and distribution procedures.
  • Requires experience running, troubleshooting and quality control for print production equipment and processes
  • Willingness to learn and operate new equipment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to interact positively with members and staff.
