The Southeastern PA (SEPA) Organizing Associate is responsible for identifying key activists/advocates and lead organizers to take on community power-building in targeted areas. This position will specifically work to build a base of community support for the We The People campaign’s pro-active policy agenda, and to mobilize those people to encourage legislators to sign on and support the agenda and hold them accountable when they do not do so. The ideal candidate is someone deeply invested in the SEPA region, and preferably has a knowledge of the political landscape and community networks in that region. A background in community and/or political organizing, strong analytical and quantitative skills, a passion for progressive politics, and experience in educating community members and leading them to action, in part by example is also very important.

This position will report directly to the Director of Campaigns and is based in Southeastern PA

About Pennsylvania Budget and Policy Center and the We The People Campaign:
Launched formally in 2007, the Pennsylvania Budget and Policy Center (PBPC) is a nonpartisan, statewide policy research project of the Keystone Research Center that provides independent, credible analysis on state tax, budget, and related policy matters, with attention to the impact of policy proposals on working families.

We The People – PA (WTP) is a nonpartisan campaign of PBPC that aims to make state government work for all of us. WTP’s agenda was created from the ground up by people who came together in meetings across Pennsylvania. WTP is a project of the Keystone Research Center (KRC) and the Pennsylvania Budget and Policy Center (PBPC).

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with advocates, partners and allies to execute a mobilization plan that builds a base of support for WTP and holds WTP endorsers and legislators accountable to their constituents
  • Conduct educational seminars and presentations around our pro-active policy agenda in communities
  • Participate and support external/stakeholder activities in the community to build power, and to win economic justice for the prosperity of all Pennsylvanians
  • Ability to track, manage, and effectively complete multiple projects, spreadsheets and meet multiple deadlines
  • We’re seeking candidates who excel in relationship-building, are results-oriented, are excellent problem solvers, and have strong project management skills
  • Effective writing and speaking skills to present issues and ideas to diverse communities and groups
  • Ability to process, understand, and translate complex policy issues and communicate them to diverse audiences (with different levels of understanding re: issues)
  • Cultural competence in communicating with diverse communities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Additional responsibilities and duties, as needed

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
At least 1-3 years of relevant work experience with a track record of developing and maintaining strong relationships.

This is a full-time staff position based in Southeastern PA. Evening and weekend hours are required, along with significant travel throughout SEPA. Applicants must have a car and a valid driver’s license.

COMPENSATION: Highly competitive, and depends on experience and qualifications. Salary range is $45,000 – $50,000 with travel reimbursement, excellent benefits including full medical and dental coverage and employer contribution to a Simple IRA. Currently, this is a through November 2020 position with an excellent opportunity to extend.
