SUMMARY
The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) is hiring a Creative Media Producer to join our team and make a difference in the lives of working people. The Creative Media Producer should be well rounded in digital media production with a passion for the labor movement, progressive causes, and social video. Their primary tasks will include shooting and editing video content, including rapid response explainers pertaining to the news cycle, organizing campaigns, and legislative developments. The incumbent will work with the Communications Director and departmental staff to shoot and produce video content to be distributed on IUPAT social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. These videos should aim to look distinctive and they must be accurate, concise, timely, and help explain complex political and economic issues both internally to IUPAT members and externally to a general audience. This person must feel comfortable with data and finding appropriate visual examples to emotionally enhance and add clarity to scripts.

The ideal candidate will be politically knowledgeable and should understand what images and footage will provide the ideal juxtaposition with the given narrative. This person should be a creative thinker and collaborative employee who can thrive in a fast-paced environment with a willingness to take on tasks outside their primary responsibilities. They will be tasked with ensuring the content they develop truly speaks to our audiences and furthers our long-term narrative goals to educate our membership and the public.

This position is based in our Hanover, MD office ad will be supervised by the Communications Director. The position will frequently require travel for field shoots.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Turn raw media, archival materials and graphics into polished educational, persuasive, and promotional videos
  • Edit videos with a fast turnaround, including “rapid response” videos on the same (or following) day they are shot, and long-form videos as needed.
  • Create condensed versions of longer content for certain platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Meticulously manage and organize footage, assets, and project files
  • Use templated motion graphics with live storytelling
  • Use knowledge of the news cycle
  • Search an acquire appropriate assets that bring our narratives to life
  • Clearly communicate production choices to the creative team
  • Work collaboratively within the Communications Department to create content with the greatest potential to go viral, tethered to the news/what’s trending, with the intention of furthering our union and our priorities
  • Be equally comfortable collaborating with a team or working independently from concept to completion.
  • Be self-motivated and able to handle competing priorities and shifting deadlines
  • Be able to work under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Stay up to date on current editing trends and techniques, including related to social video, to enhance storytelling, and content performance
  • Create title cards, video thumbnails, and other graphics as needed
  • Be organized and have excellent project and time management skills
  • Be a quick and strategic decision maker
  • Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
None

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of video shooting and editing experience
  • A creative portfolio of work
  • Experience with Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, and/or equivalent tools
  • Knowledge of video optimization for mobile devices
  • Knowledge of how to maintain a production calendar
  • Experience with production (lighting, sound, cinematography)
  • Experience with Zoom and streaming platforms
  • A willingness and ability to travel as needed
  • Attention to detail and organization while managing tight deadlines and multiple projects

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Working environment will be a combination of office work and fieldwork. The individual selected will be expected to travel as a component of this position. Dress code is business professional.
