Part-time Organizer

Based in Washington, DC

DCNA seeks to hire a Part-time Organizer to lead union organizing drives to develop strong nurse leaders and build an effective organization with the power to fight and win improvements at health care institutions and for patients in the District of Columbia metropolitan area.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement successful tactics to win union organizing elections against employer opposition
  • Identify, recruit, train, develop and inspire RN leaders through one-on-one and group communication
  • Build and maintain RN organization in the workplace
  • Assist in community coalition and other political actions
  • Help organize large actions such as picket lines, strikes, and marches
  • Perform administrative tasks necessary for organizing (such as maintaining databases, producing materials, and correspondence)

Job Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Experience as a passionate organizer in union or social justice movement setting
  • Registered Nurse license preferred
  • Able to work irregular hours (including nights and weekends), as needed
  • Commitment to social change and to carrying out the vision and program of the organization
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team setting
  • Commitment to organizational discipline
  • Ability to work with a diverse, multi-cultural membership
  • Valid driver’s license and insured car
