United for Respect (UFR) seeks a Senior Campaign Researcher to conduct corporate research and develop and implement strategies and tactics in support of our Wall Street Accountability Campaigns.

UFR is a national organization building an industry voice of working people employed by the country’s largest retail corporations. Through scaled leadership development and base-building, UFR’s growing network is challenging major corporations and policymakers to provide family‐sustaining jobs for all working people. We leverage technology — social media and our digital platform, WorkIt — and bring the retail workforce into a shared community of support and advocacy. Learn more about UFR’s core programs here: united4respect.org.

For the past few years, UFR has been leading the fight to protect retail jobs from Wall Street’s predatory practices, addressing and amplifying the destructive impacts of unchecked Wall Street greed, particularly the outsized role that private equity plays in our economy and our communities. We organize and activate retail workers who have lost their jobs because of Wall Street-driven retail bankruptcies and develop comprehensive campaigns to hold Wall Street corporations accountable.

The Senior Researcher will provide strategic research that supports the development of campaign strategies and tactics that advance UFR’s agenda and act as a thought partner to the Deputy Campaigns Director working with the Wall Street Accountability Campaign team and UFR member-leaders. This position will report to an UFR’s Research Director.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Wall Street Accountability Campaign team to develop and execute innovative and impactful campaign strategies and tactics.
  • Create financial models and forecasting; track the activities of key private equity and hedge fund companies.
  • Conduct industry analysis including fundraising activity and trends; grow UFR’s body of hedge fund research.
  • Conduct individual and corporate research; at times working in close collaboration with member-leaders and alliance partners.
  • Conduct original research on private equity/hedge fund ownership and financial strategies (e.g. LBOs, bankruptcies, etc.) in order to advance our campaign objectives and change public narrative.
  • Support the development of a multi-organization research cohort that is growing and popularizing the body of evidence against private equity.
  • Provide research support for campaign actions, press events and testimony for public hearings.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of doing corporate accountability or comprehensive campaign research.
  • Demonstrated commitment to economic and social justice and worker or community leadership.
  • Strong technical research skills and ability to apply research to the development of strategic campaigns.
  • Familiarity with private equity and hedge funds.
  • Familiarity with financial analysis and bankruptcy law.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Ability to relate to and work with diverse groups of people as well as an understanding of the daily challenges faced by low-income communities of color.
  • Familiarity with earned media and digital strategies.
  • Ability to work varied hours including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to speak Spanish is a plus, but not required.
  • Comfortable with a remote work culture.

Salary Range: $65-$85,000 dependent on experience and location, with excellent health coverage and other competitive benefits.
