About KIWA
KIWA is a multiracial worker center, with roots in the Korean democracy movement and racial and economic justice movements of the U.S. We are a membership organization with a mostly Latino and Korean worker base. Founded in 1992 in Koreatown, Los Angeles, the mission of KIWA is to build the power of immigrant workers and residents to set standards and transform workplaces and communities, in Koreatown and beyond. Worker organizing is central to our theory of change. Our methods are workplace organizing, leadership development, policy innovation, affordable housing development, housing justice advocacy, services, and cultural and ideological change.

Job Overview
You will be a key staff member of KIWA. You will develop and implement digital and traditional communications strategies for workplace and policy campaigns and for the organization. This includes strategic communications, campaign messaging, earned media, and narrative, graphic, and digital communications. If hired at the director level, you will be a central thought partner in strategic planning and the development of our organization. You will work closely with other KIWA staff and with local and statewide partners.

Major Responsibilities

  • Lead KIWA’s communications strategy, earned media, and digital communications.
  • Develop communications for a range of stakeholders and audiences including funders, allies, supporters, and policymakers.
  • Support staff and worker leaders through media training, preparation, talking points development, and production of materials.
  • Develop effective, platform-specific digital strategies.
  • Manage a calendar for KIWA’s communications.
  • Advise in development of materials for member communications.

Requirements

  • Commitment to KIWA’s mission and respect for workers.
  • Commensurate professional work experience in communications, whether applying at the Lead or Director level.
  • Experience in the labor movement or other racial, economic, and/or social justice organizations.
  • Faith in narrative strategy as one cornerstone of change.
  • Ability to build strong professional relationships.
  • Outstanding writer with native-level fluency in English.
  • Demonstrated success in developing effective, concise messaging and voice.
  • Experience developing and implementing communications strategies and detailed plans for organizations, campaigns, and programs, including traditional earned media.
  • Experience developing social strategies on Facebook and Twitter.
  • Ability to be creative and responsive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Working proficiency in design software, digital cameras, and basic video editing.
  • Understanding of the principles of good design, photography, and video.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and relationships.
  • Greatly desired: fluent spoken and written Spanish or Korean and supervision experience.

Salary and Benefits:

  • $60,000+ for Lead, $75,000+ for Director

Although some remote work is possible at this time, this is not a remote position, and requires frequent office and field presence. Some irregular hours.
