The Engineers and Scientists of California Local 20, International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers, AFL-CIO & CLC is a dynamic, democratic, and activist labor union that represents more than 7,500 workers throughout California. The Local is headquartered in Oakland and has an experienced, activist, and united Executive Board. ESC Local 20 members are highly skilled professionals employed principally at Pacific Gas and Electric Company (“PG&E”), Kaiser Permanente, private and public health care facilities, local and federal government agencies, and legal non-profits.
ESC Local 20 is seeking an experienced Union Representative who will support the imple-mentation of the Executive Board’s vision, under the supervision of the Executive Director.
Duties include:
- contract negotiations and enforcement
- providing support for ongoing labor-management structures
- grievance administration
- member development and training
- political action
- and organizing
- supporting ESC’s goals in working with other labor and community allies in the assigned territory
Compensation is highly competitive and step placement is dependent on experience and qualifications. Outstanding benefit package includes 100% employer-paid family medical and prescription coverage. ESC provides a 401K/Pension employer contribution of 21% of the annual base salary. The position has generous time off benefits that include vacation and compensatory time off provisions.
Desired qualifications:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience in grievance administration and contract negotiation
- A team player who possesses the ability to engage with people from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to think strategically and exercise a high degree of judgment
- Candidates should have a minimum of 5+ years in union work or related experience.
The Union representative will be based out of the ESC Local 20 office in Oakland; however, work is currently remote due to COVID-19. The job will require travel (post COVID-19 re-strictions) throughout the service territory (availability for North or South Bay Area). Work can include long, irregular hours, including evenings, and weekends. A valid Driver’s License and insurability are a requirement for this position.
