POSITION TITLE: Political Organizer
AREA: Massachusetts and Hudson Valley/Capital Division, NY
REPORTS TO: Regional Political Director
CLASSIFICATION: Permanent

Job Summary:
The Political Organizer is responsible for coordinating and implementing the Union’s Political Action program in their respective regions. The Political Action Department strives to increase the political, economic, and social power of our members. The Political Organizer is responsible for developing member leaders, executing campaigns, and maintaining relationships with community allies. The Political Organizer will report to the Regional Political Director and coordinate closely with the region’s officers, staff and members.

Responsibilities:

  • Recruits, develops and equips members to be civic leaders and activists.
  • Educate, organize and mobilize members for electoral, issue, and legislatives campaigns.
  • Grows the Political Action Fund by identifying new potential donors and developing them to recruit other member donors.
  • Serves as a liaison between 1199SEIU and local political, community, and allied groups in their regions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Successful candidates must have a demonstrated background in union organizing, progressive politics and/or political campaigns. Candidates must have a working knowledge of electoral politics and grassroots and digital organizing tactics. Candidates must be computer and smart phone literate and have a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, social media, and data tracking tools, and It is essential that candidates be a quick study of electoral districts and representatives. Candidates should have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Candidates must have the ability to work irregular hours, including nights and weekends. Candidates must maintain a valid state driver license.
