ABOUT ONE FAIR WAGE
The One Fair Wage campaign is a national campaign to eliminate the subminimum wage for 6 million tipped and subminimum wage workers across the country through state and federal law. The campaign was founded by the Restaurant Opportunities Centers (ROC) United, a national restaurant workers’ organization, as the majority of tipped workers work in restaurants. Today, One Fair Wage legislation is moving in about ten states and in Congress and we are building power across service sectors, including with hospitality workers, nail salon and car wash workers, drivers and delivery workers at app-based companies, etc.

We are looking for a Campaign Coordinator to ORGANIZE – to build power with workers and coalition partners to win One Fair Wage policy in Illinois. The Campaign Coordinator’s main responsibility is to build out a racially diverse and inclusive grassroots squad of tipped and subminimum wage service workers to publicly demand and win One Fair Wage in Illinois.

IL Campaign Coordinator Responsibilities:

  • Lead the One Fair Wage IL campaign in collaboration with the IL Lead Organizer – primarily organizing tipped and subminimum wage workers across the state to build the power to win $15+tips
  • Identify and develop low-wage service worker leaders who will recruit their peers into OFW base, ie move workers up the leadership ladder for dignity and power building
  • Facilitate ongoing worker meetings, coalition meetings – both virtually and in person once safe
  • Support the development and implementation of a legislative targeting strategy
  • Lead worker outreach, leadership development, and regular mobilizations in IL (virtually and in person once safe) that target key legislators and demonstrate worker power to win One Fair Wage
  • Engage and rebuild a local coalition of organizations representing various tipped worker sectors to work together to win comprehensive legislation
  • Support local press events and other communications efforts locally and nationally
  • Leverage social media, the OFW Emergency Fund, Zoom calls, workers’ greater accessibility at home and more to creatively expand organizing during shelter-at-home, social distancing and other orders to maintain public health and personal safety through the Covid-19 pandemic.
  • Manage and utilize social media platforms to get out our message and organize workers on IG, FB, and Twitter

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 3-5 years of labor/community member organizing, voter engagement, and/or base-building experience;
  • At least 1+ years experience as a tipped or subminimum wage worker
  • Experience in coalition building, and deep understanding of leadership development, demonstrated patience and accountability with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Maintenance of a professional attitude, strong ethical practice and a willingness to learn and grow;
  • Strong communication, time management, and group leadership skills, including active listening, empathy, pop’d agendas, delegation and facilitation skills
  • Commitment to racial, social, and economic justice; and significant experience and ease working collaboratively with persons of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, socioeconomic status, ages, and sexual orientations;
  • Willingness to travel when/if safe, mostly in IL, and periodically elsewhere in the country. A valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle and auto insurance coverage when driving are needed
  • Knowledge of computer software and apps, including Google Suite, Zoom, SmartVAN, EveryAction, Asana, Slack, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc
  • Readiness to reach qualitative and quantitative goals;
  • Fluency in English and another language preferred;
  • Resident of Illinois

This is a full time position with salary and benefits, starting immediately. Pay is $40-50k commensurate with experience; OFW will conduct ongoing interviews until the position is filled. The IL Campaign Coordinator will work daily and weekly on an equal level with the IL State Lead Organizer and will report directly to the One Fair Wage National Policy Campaign Director.
