Member Communications and Development Specialist

Based in Washington, DC

Teachers’ union/professional association in downtown DC seeks individual skilled in membership development and communications. Successful candidate will work with the Director of Communications to educate, inform and recruit members for the Association, using digital and print media. Major responsibilities will include creating and transferring content for new Association WordPress site, helping to develop an online training platform for far-flung membership, and posting/maintaining frequent updates and releases to membership via Salesforce, social media and Web postings. Work will initially be done remotely but may require work in Washington DC office on regular or semi-regular basis. Applicants should be located within the greater Washington DC area.

Position is a one-year hire. Infrequent travel may be required. No moving expenses will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Write and edit communication materials in support of the Association’s mission across web, social media, and print platforms
  • Update and maintain webpages using CMS; assist in transferring material from legacy site to new site using WordPress
  • Update and maintain presence on Social Media (Facebook, Twitter) and develop presence on additional platforms where possible
  • Alone or in conjunction with others, refine and/or develop webinars, learning modules, and trainings for adults to be presented remotely or in-person
  • Assist in development of online platform for delivery of training/learning content to members and others
  • Assist with preparation of membership forms, brochures, etc. and help coordinate membership mailings
  • Perform administrative tasks to support membership strategy
  • Respond to inquiries from members/prospective members
  • Help to coordinate member benefits program
  • Assist with member registration/attendance at Association meetings and events
  • Other duties as assigned

Required skills/knowledge/experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or other relevant discipline
  • Minimum 1-3 years’ work experience in a professional environment
  • Experience with video editing/production
  • Strong proofreading/editing skills
  • Experience posting content to Web using CMS, preferably WordPress
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in basic MS Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with graphic/photo editing software (Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of Google Analytics, SEO, content strategy and content marketing
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work well as part of a team as well as on your own
  • Ability to work remotely or in DC office setting while wearing a mask and observing social distancing guidelines

Desired skills/knowledge/experience

  • Experience posting material to a Learning Management System or otherwise managing online/virtual training and learning programs
  • Web development (html, CSS, JavaScript, etc.)
  • Familiarity with InDesign or other desktop publishing software
  • Experience in a professional association, union or related organization, preferably in a communications or marketing role
  • Google Ads or other online advertising
  • Grant writing
  • Salesforce (especially Marketing Cloud)

Starting Salary Range: $49,588-$56,518 (depending upon experience and qualifications)
