Staff Counsel

Job Summary:
Responsible to the Associate Executive Director for Advocacy Services. The Iowa State Education Association is an affiliate of the National Education Association, which is a labor organization that advocates for quality public education and represents public sector educational employees.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide timely and comprehensive legal advice and training in the areas of labor, employment law, education and contract law.
  • Manage civil ligation, administrative hearings, and appellate work in an independent working environment.
  • Accept special projects and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Qualified candidates must be licensed to practice law in Iowa.
  • Demonstrated interest and background in labor and employment law.
  • A minimum of three years of litigation experience is preferred.
  • Candidates must be committed to advocating for unions and public education employees and possess strong organizational and time management skills and superior research and writing skills.
  • Ability to travel and work various hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Valid Iowa driver’s license.
