Payroll Auditor
Finance Department

Based in Astoria, NY

Local 52, Motion Picture Studio Mechanics, IATSE, is seeking a Payroll Auditor to work in the union’s Finance Department. This position involves analyzing and reviewing payroll, tax, and personnel records from numerous employer databases to determine employer compliance with collective bargaining agreements. The auditor is responsible for creating and submitting reports of audit findings to the Bookkeeper and Secretary Treasurer on a variety of employee benefit plans.

This opportunity allows our auditor the ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.

Position Responsibilities

  • Performing audits on payroll, tax, and other personnel records using an automated computer system and paper records.
  • Computing audit results and preparing audit reports.
  • Manipulating data to develop reports
  • Researching payroll records, reports, and contracts.
  • Transferring payroll data onto worksheets.
  • Retrieving accurate information from various departments and companies.
  • Follow-up on all issues ranging from incorrect wage & benefit payments and missing/incorrect data entries.
  • Analyze and review findings in an attempt to spot unexplained trends, anomalies or other indications of problems.
  • Execute accurate and timely preparation of weekly payrolls.
  • Process time sheets (data input as well as import) and other related data for each payroll run, ensuring accuracy and reconciling issues.
  • Respond to and resolve questions and payroll issues in a timely and professional manner.

Job Requirements

  • Associates degree, preferably in a business-related field.
  • Experience utilizing payroll software preferred.
  • Knowledge of database analysis.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong command of SQL and SQL server tools.
  • Understanding of relational and dimensional data modeling.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, and be sensitive to situations where information must be shared on a ‘need to know’ basis.
  • Ability to interact with employees at all levels of the organization with expertise regarding payroll, benefits and leave management.
  • Excellent analytical, inter-personal, time management, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and tight deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Organizational skills sufficient to meet and exceed given deadlines.
  • Experience with or knowledge of collective bargaining agreements a plus.
