SEIU 6 Property Services NW represents over 7,000 working women and men in various jobs throughout Washington State. SEIU6 represents members in Airport, Janitorial, and Security. Through organizing and collective power, SEIU6 members have been able to raise the standards for working families across Washington State. We are part of the 2 million-member Service Employee International Union (SEIU). SEIU6 is committed to building power at the workplace and engaging in social and economic justice issues facing working families, from accessible affordable healthcare to immigration rights. SUMMARY: SEIU6 Property Services NW is seeking an Organizer to work on membership engagement and representation, identifying and developing new leaders at the worksite, new organizing, external organizing, and other projects on behalf of SEIU members. Responsibilities include developing leadership among members and designing and implementing programs that meet the goals of the Local. We are currently hiring for both an Internal and External Organizer position.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Organizer performs a wide range of duties, which may include:

  • Identify, recruit and develop leaders and help develop them into shop stewards, political activists, committee members, and leaders within labor movement.
  • Design, manage, organize, and implement internal campaigns including recruitment and contract enforcement.
  • Handle grievances and worksite issues as part of the contract enforcement.
  • Participate in public policy activity such as city and county politics, or in some cases at the state level, and political work.
  • Represent the Union in community and labor coalitions when necessary.
  • Design and implement communication programs with the membership, within the Janitorial/Security Officers/Airport units.
  • Willing to work irregular, and sometimes, long hours and weekends. This is not a 9-5 job.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to work independently but also as part of SEIU6 Team; Self-starter, effective oral and written communication skills; ability to work well with diverse people; computer literacy preferred; bilingual a plus-but not required, organizational leadership experience required; and ability to exercise high level of judgment. Driver’s License and car (with insurance) required.
