Associate Executive Director of Nursing

Based in the Lansing area, MI

The Michigan Nurses Association (MNA) is the largest, most effective union for RNs across the state. As the voice for all registered nurses in Michigan, MNA advocates for nurses and their patients at the Capitol, in the community, and at the bargaining table.

The Associate Executive Director of Nursing, under the administrative direction of the Executive Director, plans and implements a nursing practice program which mentors nurses to be strong leaders and advocates for their patients while promoting the practice and education standards of the nursing profession and the accomplishments of the Michigan Nurses Association (MNA).

• Develops a strategic plan for the development and implementation of the nursing practice program for MNA and prepares implementation strategies based upon MNA’s stated purpose, goals and objectives.
• Use advocacy skills to promote positive work environments and support the grassroots engagement of nurses to address workplace concerns.
• Oversees the ANCC/State requirements for MNA to be a provider and approver of nursing continuing education.
• Advises members, local bargaining units and staff on nursing practice and education; assists in or conducts training sessions in a variety of formats, including live presentations, online offerings, and within the Michigan Nurse magazine.
• Serves as a resource on state and CE standards for MNA staff who provide or expect to provide CE activities.
• Works to establish and reinforce connections with Michigan’s nursing schools, nursing school faculty, and nursing students.
• Monitors the quality and effectiveness of nursing care and supports nurses as advocates for their patients.
• Supports and coordinates nursing practice/education program activities with all other MNA programs.

Qualifications: MSN, or BSN with a master’s degree; current Michigan RN license.

Experience: 3-5 years of nursing practice/education experience. Proven leadership skills, the ability to meet deadlines, strong organizational and interpersonal skills are required.

Skills: A thorough knowledge of fundamental nursing practice/policy and adult education/learning methods. Interpersonal skills to deal effectively with the board members, staff, members, committee members and the general public. Must have strong written and oral communication skills.
