Assistant Counsel

Based in Washington, DC

An Assistant Counsel position is available in the Office of the General Counsel of the National Treasury Employees Union, in Washington, D.C. The position is in the bargaining unit and has a career ladder on the NTEU pay scale of Grade 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15. There is a three-year wait before promotion to a Grade 15.

The Assistant Counsel represents NTEU in litigation before administrative tribunals, the federal district courts, the Court of Federal Claims, the courts of appeals, and the Supreme Court. The incumbent also advises the General Counsel on general legal questions raised by other components within NTEU. Limited travel may be required.

Requirements of the position include excellent academic credentials and superior legal research, legal writing, and oral communications skills. Experience in substantive areas of law, including the Fair Labor Standards Act and other pay statutes, administrative procedure, constitutional litigation, and the laws governing collective bargaining, is highly desirable.
Federal court experience is preferred, and a federal clerkship is desirable. D.C. bar membership (or waive-in eligibility) is required.
