Position Summary: The Florida Education Association (FEA) seeks a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) to join its Finance Department as a Senior Staff Accountant. The primary role of the Senior Staff Accountant will be to assist the Director of Financial Services in all aspects of managing FEA’s fiscal policies and procedures and ensuring accurate financial recordkeeping. Additionally, this role will manage reconciliation of numerous accounts ensuring that receipts and disbursements are accurately allocated to the appropriate funds and entities. This position requires someone who thrives in a high-volume work environment and is detail-oriented.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelors’ degree in accounting, business, or a related field from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Licensed Certified Public Accountant is required.
  • At least five years’ professional accounting experience is required.
  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office Outlook, Excel, and Word is required.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks in highly desired.
  • Experience preparing and filing not-for-profit tax returns is highly desired.
  • Experience working in PeopleSoft/Oracle is highly desired.
  • Experience preparing US Department of Labor LM-2 reports is desired.
  • Experience working for a member-based organization is desired.
  • Experience working for a union is desired.
  • Experience presenting financial reports is desired.
  • Ability and willingness to travel, including overnight travel.

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Support FEA’s Director of Financial Services in establishing and enforcing sound financial management and recordkeeping policies and practices
  2. Maintain strict confidentiality of information, systems, and processes maintained or accessed in the Finance Department.
  3. Oversee the coding and tracking of receipts and disbursements to ensure accurate allocation and coding necessary to efficiently generate financial statements and regulatory compliance.
  4. Design and accurately maintain financial reports in accounting systems to track and display information necessary to complete federal and state reporting requirements and to respond to internal requests for information.
  5. Serve as a liaison for FEA Service Units and Local Unions concerning federal and state fiscal compliance and other financial best practices.
  6. Design and provide training regarding FEA’s financial and accounting processes to create efficiencies and ensure smooth auditing capabilities.
  7. Assist the Director of Financial Services in researching and preparing data for financial reports, audits, tax returns, and other required filings.
  8. Prepare journal entries, conduct fiscal analysis, complete account reconciliations, and assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end closeout processes for numerous entities.
  9. Gather the necessary information and timely submit political campaign contribution reports with the appropriate federal and state entities.
  10. Efficiently navigate computer systems, financial software, and online databases in order to update, compile, and reconcile large sets of data.
  11. Create and maintain sensitive/confidential reports as requested.
  12. Manage and coordinate special projects as assigned.
  13. Successfully manage multiple high-priority projects.
  14. Other duties as assigned.

  5. Perform all duties, responsibilities, and assignments within the guidelines outlined in the FSO/FEA Collective Bargaining Agreement and in accordance with FEA Policies and Procedures.
  6. Possess knowledge of FEA’s governance policies and procedures, organization structure, and general policies and procedures.

Salary will be based on relevant experience and qualifications.
