The New York State Nurses Association is a labor organization of over 43,000 frontline nurses standing together for strength at work, nursing practice, safe staffing, and healthcare for all. We are New York’s largest union and professional association for registered nurses.

This position will report to and function under the direction of the Director of Field Organizing, the Director of Collective Bargaining, and the Communications Director; to provide confidential administrative support to senior NYSNA leadership.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with materials and logistics for pickets, strikes, rallies, elections, and other union actions.
  • Participate in the planning of union-wide lobby days, state-wide union meetings and conventions, and other actions.
  • Prepare staff for bargaining, including meeting logistics, documentation and note-taking, filing, tentative agreement tracking, and ratification. Assist with the planning and implementation of collective bargaining agreements and new benefits for members.
  • Prepare for staff leadership and department meetings, including scheduling, reminding, meeting logistics, and note-taking.
  • Maintain a filing system for relevant files, bargaining documents, newspaper clippings, NYSNA publications, photos.
  • Provide confidential administrative support to senior NYSNA leadership, as assigned.
  • Process confidential communications for staff as directed.

RELATED ACTIVITIES:

  • Relieve other confidential administrative personnel as needed.
  • Maintain current knowledge of overall NYSNA office policies, procedures and practices affecting all program activities.
  • Perform other related activities which may be required in advancing the mission, purposes and interests of NYSNA.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 3 – 5 years of administration experience, experienced as an administrative assistant.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Proficiency in written communication.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and similar programs.
  • Strong Spanish language skills preferred.
  • Experience in preparing draft correspondence.
