United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 2013 is a union of 14,000 members working in food manufacturing, warehousing, and health care in the New York City metropolitan area. Our Brooklyn-based union represents a majority immigrant workforce that is the backbone of the city. We are committed to improving the lives of working people.

Major responsibilities include:

• Visit assigned shops on a scheduled basis.
• Assist and train Local Shop Stewards in policing and enforcing the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• Process grievances up to and through the arbitration process.
• Participate in Labor / Management meetings at assigned shops.
• Train, educate and mentor Shop Stewards.
• Lead or participate in contract negotiations.
• Train bargaining unit members in actively participating in contract negotiations.
• Identification of organizing targets.
• Prepare and submit weekly work activity reports to Local Union Directors; maintain a detailed record of project activities.

Qualifications:

• 1-3 years of representational experience.
• Strong communication skills.
• Bilingual Spanish (and/or other languages) desired and are a plus.
• Comfort and effectiveness working in a diverse environment.
• Commitment to fight for justice and worker rights.
• Strong organization and time management skills.
• Knowledge of relevant labor laws.

Compensation and Benefits:
Salary will be based on years of experience. Package includes comprehensive     health and retirement benefits.
