SEIU 503 is hiring a Coordinator to oversee a team of organizers who specialize in contract enforcement, representation and support for our Union’s stewards and members. The Coordinator will ensure the orderly operation of all team duties, coordinate the arbitration screening process in conjunction with our Legal department, and participate in project teams with our field organizing staff to support and develop stewards.

Job Title: Member Assistance Center Coordinator
Reports To: Member Assistance Center Director
Status: Exempt, Managerial, Permanent, Full-Time

Job Summary: Core responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supervise contract enforcement team, develop accountability structures, manage staff performance, and handle personnel issues.
  • Supervise and oversee team duties and coordinate with other departments to support the Union’s program including steward development
  • The position works in coordination with the Member Assistance Center, Legal Department and Field Coordinators to ensure collaboration where needed over contract enforcement issues and training and organizing opportunities that involve grievances.
  • Train, develop and mentor staff in all aspects of contract administration, steward development, and applicable organizing and bargaining work in consultation with the Legal, Bargaining and Field Teams.
  • Coordinate staff meetings (team and one-on-one) that include planning, reporting, evaluating and implementing accountability structures that relate to the Union’s overall strategic plan.
  • Coordinate the staffing of the Arbitration Screening committees and handle arbitrations in conjunction with the Legal Department.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of how to handle public and private contract enforcement to be able to handle all regular duties of team including handling cases, grievances, or other duties as needed
  • Participate in union-wide membership drives, political campaigns and other field activities as assigned which may include worksite visits, phone banking, house visits, door-to-door canvassing and literature drops.

Education and Experience: The ideal candidate will be an experienced and effective leader of teams with experience operating in a member run Union environment.

Must Have:

  • Contract enforcement experience in both the public and private sectors
  • Ability to hold staff, leaders and self, accountable to established performance standards/assessments regarding grievance casework and other assigned work
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other Union departments and member committees.
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to build an organizing culture within the Union.
  • Demonstrated success working with staff and members of diverse backgrounds and identities
  • Experience working for a labor Union

Preferred Experience:

  • 2+ years supervisory experience in an inbound call center with at least 20 staff
  • 5+ years of contract enforcement experience in both the public and private sectors
  • Bilingual in Spanish

Pay and Benefits: Management positions provide comprehensive fully paid health, dental and vision benefits for employee and eligible dependents, domestic partner benefits, generous holiday and leave policies, a severance package, a monthly car and cell phone allowance, and a 15% employer-paid defined contribution 401K. Compensation range is based on experience $74,316 – $98,988 annually.
