Based in Dedham, MA

UFCW Local 1445 in Dedham, MA is looking for a qualified candidate to fill a currently open Union Representative position in our Healthcare Division.

The successful candidate must be a self-motivated multitasker with the following qualifications:

• Dedication to workers’ rights and social justice.
• Knowledge of healthcare workers’ issues, the healthcare workplace, and union and political issues.
• Three or more years of current technical healthcare work experience, with an associate or bachelor’s degree in the healthcare field.
• Ability to read and write English.
• Knowledge of or ability and desire to learn a relevant special body of knowledge including labor laws such as they relate to OSHA, FMLA, ADA, Workers Compensation, etc.; and medical terminology, titles, departments, etc. within a healthcare setting.
• Working knowledge of or ability to learn computer programs including Word, Excel, e-mail, internet access, and proprietary union applications.
• Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to relate, establish, and cultivate respectful relationships with people from diverse backgrounds, and the ability to motivate and lead workers in necessary struggles.
• Ability to effectively deal with stressful situations, and to efficiently organize and prioritize in order to meet varying deadlines and conflicting/changing priorities.
• Effective informal and formal negotiation skills.
• Ability to work and organize independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to travel, work long hours, and be available by phone 24/7.
• A clean appearance and professional attitude at all times.
