All Voting is Local (AVL) fights to eliminate needless and discriminatory barriers to voting before they happen, to build a democracy that works for us all. It is a collaborative campaign housed at The Leadership Conference Education Fund, in conjunction with the American Civil Liberties Union Foundation; the American Constitution Society; the Campaign Legal Center; and the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. Position Summary:
The Ohio State Director is responsible for the development and implementation of a program that effectuates All Voting Is Local’s mission in that state. This position may be located anywhere in Ohio.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Execute on AVL programming in target cities and counties during 2020 cycle and beyond
  • Directly manage one other Ohio-based staffer
  • Track changes to election administration in key areas, and develop an assessment of the implications of these changes, particularly for historically disenfranchised communities
  • In coordination with the existing network of voting rights organizations in their state, develop and implement effective strategies to expand access to the ballot and respond to needless and discriminatory obstacles to voting
  • Work with AVL data director to ensure that strategy is data-driven and metrics oriented
  • Work with AVL communications team to develop communications strategy and incorporate effective messaging into strategy
  • Build relationships with state and local election officials; and engage and coordinate advocates and volunteers on the ground, to support and expand the capacity of the existing voting rights community
  • Support the development of national and cross-state strategies to protect the right to vote
  • Represent All Voting is Local within the civil rights community in your state, and to the media

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Past experience in voting rights or election protection
  • Political, organizing, or campaign experience
  • Experience organizing and managing volunteers
  • Experience working with coalitions
  • Experience with tight deadlines and long hours, and the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities
  • A team player, with sound judgment, who thrives in a fast-paced collaborative environment, is a self-starter, can manage time efficiently, is flexible, and enjoys a good challenge
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Ability to think creatively and find solutions quickly
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Law or master’s degree preferred
  • Ability to travel

Reports To: All Voting Is Local National Campaign Manager (located in Washington, DC).
