The Clark County Education Association (CCEA) is seeking applicants for the position of Political Director. This position will be responsible for developing and implementing CCEA’s political, policy, and legislative programs at multiple levels of engagement. Résumés will be held confidential. Association Overview
Clark County Education Association is the largest independent education union in the Country that represents 18,000+ Pre K-12 licensed employees in 360 schools in the Clark County School District (CCSD) which is the fifth largest school district in the USA. CCEA is also the largest educator’s union in Nevada. CCEA provides collective bargaining, contract representation, professional development, legal services, legislative advocacy and political programs to win for our members. CCEA’s record of political accomplishment in Nevada politics has resulted in significant advances for educators and public education.

CCEA will be running two statewide ballot initiatives to raise over $1 billion annually for Nevada’s k-12 education system. This campaign is called Strategic Horizons. In addition to regular responsibilities, the Political Director will lead the work of the Campaign team on these initiatives.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree with extensive experience in this field
  • Extensive experiences in developing and moving legislation, lobbying and policy advocacy
  • Experience in running ballot initiatives
  • Knowledgeable about public education policy at the national, state, and local levels
  • Demonstrated experience in building bi-partisan (Republican and Democrats) support around issues among elected leaders from different political persuasions
  • Experience in building coalitions/consensus with key stakeholders that CCEA needs to align with
  • Proven experience in building relationships with lawmakers, business and community leaders, education stakeholders
  • Effective and accomplished public presenter on issues related to legislation, policy and politics
  • Strategic thinker in terms of developing multi-year plans to grow program and capacity
  • Extensive experience (minimum of eight years) running elections including building voter capacity and high functioning GOTV operations
  • Experience in maintaining field presences in non-election years by having member and stakeholder engagements around education issues
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while prioritizing the organizations efforts.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and with effective writing skills
  • Experience and skill set that has acquired the ability to utilize and integrate current technologies including digital engagement
  • Must be data driven: skill in gathering, analyzing and producing analytics with data to be used as a basis for developing specific political strategies
  • Ability to plan effectively and develop a variety of strategies to achieve organizational goals
  • Ability to generate summary reports of activities and events
  • Advanced degree or technical training preferable but not required
  • Bilingual (Spanish) aptitude preferable but not required

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Work with CCEA’s Senior Team in developing CCEA’s legislative and policy agenda
  • Develop CCEA’s legislative strategy taking into account multiple legislative cycles
  • Manage CCEA’s political, community and business relationships
  • Develop a multi election cycle campaign plan that takes into account Legislative elections and gubernatorial elections to put into office pro-CCEA candidates
  • Develop a field operations plan to turnout out CCEA’s base and supporters to vote
  • Work with CCEA’s Data Department to build political data base and analytics
  • Manage digital field operation for election cycles taking advantage of CCEA’s high VR numbers
  • Develop voter registration plan that increases voter registration including identifying and engaging registered parent voters of students in Clark County School District
  • Work with CCEA vendors when needed
  • Other duties as assigned.
