Field Representative

Based in New Orleans, LA

Local #798, I.A.T.S.E. is a Union for Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists in the United States representing over 1800 members in 22 states and territories including the District of Columbia. Applications are being accepted for the position of Field Representative. This position will be based out of New Orleans, LA.

Summary Statement:
This position requires travel, some evenings and weekends. Job duties include contract administration, membership advocacy, organizing, and other duties related to the goals of the Union. Regular set visits are required to address issues or safety concerns with production. The Field Representative will identify and help to resolve member to member issues. Daily call sheets will be collected as well as keeping a list of current and incoming productions. The Field Representative will assist, when necessary, an Education Director if a class is being given in his/her/their area. Setting priorities, meeting deadlines, compiling and analyzing data are critical. Maintain professional relationships with production, crew and local area union representatives and governmental officials.

This position reports directly to the Executive Board. A written monthly review of activities is submitted to the Executive Board each month. Attendance at the monthly Executive Board meetings in person or via teleconference is required.

Experience:
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in union work within the entertainment industry.

Skills:
The most qualified candidate needs the following:

  • Excellent interpersonal and group communication skills.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills appropriate to working with a well-educated workforce; ability to articulate the Union’s message and vision to the membership.
  • Proficient in design and application of databases including the use of the following programs: Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to think strategically and exercise a high level of judgement.
  • Stay informed on statewide political issues that may impact the entertainment industry.
  • Flexibility to cooperate with IATSE employees and other IATSE locals.
  • Working automobile and auto insurance is required.
