The New York State Nurses Association is a labor organization of over 43,000 frontline nurses standing together for strength at work, nursing practice, safe staffing, and healthcare for all. We are New York’s largest union and professional association for registered nurses.

This position will perform routine clerical functions in an effort to assist NYSNA staff in collection, data entry, and analysis of patient and staffing information received from NYSNA members regarding their facilities/hospitals and patient care conditions. This information provides a powerful tool that NYSNA can utilize to educate hospital administrators, community members, and lawmakers about steps needed to improve patient care.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Receive, track and process all Protest of Assignment (POA) forms. This includes: separating batches by facility; counting the number of POAs received for the facility you are processing; sorting in order by date when the POA was filled out and submitted; alphabetizing POAs; checking batches for duplicates, checking for previously processed POAs, and data entry of all organized information.
  • Follow direction regarding data entry, mailings, faxing, and/or reporting of POA data.
  • Assist in the maintenance of an organized concise filing and tracking system of POAs, as well as the sorting, organizing and preparation of materials and data to be sent to archives in accordance with Association policy and procedure.
  • Perform typing, word processing and/or data entry for Director and/or program staff as directed as well as other clerical and administrative duties.

RELATED ACTIVITIES:

  • Meet with program/representation staff on a regular basis and as needed to discuss work assignments, changes in priorities, problems, and plans for improved clerical and POA entry and tracking effectiveness.
  • Maintain current knowledge of overall Association office policies, procedures, and practices affecting all program activities.
  • Perform other related activities, which may be required in advancing the mission, purposes, and interests of the New York State Nurses Association.
