Title: Strategic Communications Manager
Location: California: San Francisco Bay Area or Los Angeles County preferred
Last updated: Sept 2, 2020
Organization Summary:
The California Reinvestment Coalition (CRC) is the largest reinvestment coalition in the nation with 300 member organizations. Since our inception, we have worked with our members and allies in the fight for economic justice. CRC envisions a future where we reimagine systems of capital built around anti-racist economic justice systems; where capital centers on the needs of Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) communities first and foremost. Our campaigns focus on closing the racial wealth gap by moving from an economy based on extractive profit-taking to an economy centered on people-driven investment, where Black and Brown communities are not only at the center of that investment, but also are the drivers and decision makers of that investment.
Our members include CFDI’s, housing counselors, affordable housing providers, tenants’ rights organizations, small business technical assistance providers, multi-service agencies, and other community-serving organizations. This network of “financial first responders” work directly with impacted communities in hard-to-reach urban and rural communities.
In the past five years, CRC campaigns have resulted in more than $50 billion invested in California BIPOC communities to promote affordable housing, home ownership, small business ownership and other community-driven investments. Our advocacy and legal actions have resulted in corporate and public policy wins and have provided financial restitution to people harmed by discriminatory business practices. CRCs Executive Director has testified as a subject matter expert before Congress and has been profiled and quoted in the Wall Street Journal, The New Yorker, The Washington Post, Univision and other national media outlets.
Position Summary:
The ideal candidate is familiar with issues related to redlining practices and/or access to capital for BIPOC communities. He/She/They are passionate about working to tell the history and legacy of structural racism, the decades of advocacy to rectify the exclusion of BIPOC communities from financial systems and building wealth, and how communities work to address this embedded racism.
