Organization Summary
The California Immigrant Policy Center (CIPC) is a non-partisan, non-profit statewide organization founded in response to the 1996 passage of federal immigrant and welfare laws that profoundly affected immigrants. Today, CIPC advances inclusive policies that build a prosperous future for all Californians, using policy analysis, advocacy and capacity building.

Position Summary
For the last decade, CIPC has won critical advancements in legislation that limits the use of E-Verify, prohibits document abuse, and removes barriers to business and professional licenses for immigrant workers. Building on this work, CIPC is also focused on an agenda to bring transparency and efficiency to workforce development and adult education systems in the state to ensure that all Californians, including immigrants, are able to live with dignity and thrive in our changing economy. Over the next several years, CIPC will build a strong coalition and advance necessary inclusive policies.

The Economic Justice Policy Coordinator is both an organizer and a policy analyst who is integral to the success of our economic justice work by ensuring that we have expanding and deepening relationships with immigrant and refugee communities, particularly in the Central Valley and Bay Area. The coordinator will engage these stakeholders in developing and achieving concrete policy changes at the state level to create effective workforce development, adult education, and immigrant integration opportunities for California’s immigrant and refugee communities. This position will inform and help execute a strategy, build power and capacity for our stakeholders through convening, training, and meaningful dialogue.

Frequent travel to CIPC’s offices and throughout California, particularly the Central Valley, is necessary.

Essential Responsibilities

Organizing a regional and state-wide network of stakeholders

• Work with community-based organizations, immigrant rights groups, refugee organizations, worker organizations, local government entities, and other stakeholders, particularly in the Central Valley and Bay Area, to build partnerships and develop partners’ capacity to engage in local advocacy around workforce development, adult education, and immigrant integration
• Organize and mobilize stakeholders through a field strategy for a statewide campaign to support improved workforce development opportunities for immigrants and refugees
• Conduct outreach and follow through with stakeholders to ensure effective collaboration on the development and execution of strategic campaign activities
• Participate in CIPC’s weekly Economic Justice meetings to provide input on the development of strategies and tactics to move campaign forward
• Help plan, coordinate, and oversee local, regional, and statewide convenings and dialogues, including developing agenda, managing logistics, and facilitating discussions and maintain communication with stakeholders impacted by CIPC’s work
• Communicate updates related to policy issues through email, one on one correspondence with coalition members, and scheduling and facilitating coalition-wide calls

Technical Assistance

• Develop engaging materials and provide technical assistance on workforce development, adult education, and immigrant integration to stakeholders throughout CA, including presentation requests

Policy Support

• Track development of relevant policy issues related to workforce development, adult education, and immigrant integration for CIPC team and stakeholders
• Monitor latest developments in workforce development, including archiving, summarizing and compiling literature reviews of the latest research from partner organizations and institutions; summarizing key findings through interviews and policy dialogues with partner CBOs; reviewing regulatory state and federal administrative actions, etc.
• Provide research support and write briefs to support the EJ policy team

Qualifications

• Demonstrated commitment to economic justice for all, particularly around equitable access to jobs and education.
• Minimum of two years of experience in workforce development, workers’ rights, education, and/or public benefits access law or policy and/or immigrant rights.
• Excellent writing and oral communication skills; candidate must be able to translate complex policy issues to lay audiences from diverse backgrounds, and be comfortable speaking about issues in public.
• Collaborative spirit with other CIPC teams and external partners.
• Ability to develop or review outreach materials and conduct outreach in a language other than English strongly preferred.
• Ability to facilitate and engage broad coalitions and experience working with diverse communities and audiences preferred.
• Direct experience with workforce development or adult education system preferred.

Compensation & Benefits
Salary commensurate with experience. CIPC has a generous holiday and time off policy including flex time off after busy work periods and an annual winter recess during the last week of December.
