Political Education Program Manager

Citizen Action of New York is a statewide grassroots membership organization that fights for social, racial, environmental and economic justice. We organize in local communities to build power. We collaborate with organizations and coalitions in communities across New York to win on key issues and elect progressive candidates at the local, state and federal levels.

Citizen Action of New York is seeking a Political Education Program Manager to work out of our Albany office. The primary responsibility of the Political Education Program Manager is to coordinate our political education program through workshops, curriculum development, communications content and materials, and other outreach.

Responsibilities include:

  • Facilitate in-person political education trainings, develop and facilitate digital and webinar-style workshops
  • Identifying and training, in coordination with regional community organizers, volunteer teams to build and execute strong political education programs in each of our chapters
  • Develop and update existing training materials and curricula to include political education content
  • Build digital campaigns intended to shifting public perception on big issues like racial and economic justice. This will include writing articles, op-eds, and blog posts.
  • Engage with community leaders, organizational partners, elected officials, editorial boards, and other key influencers, including developing and providing political education trainings for candidates
  • Serving as a member of our communications team that builds press and digital engagement strategies to advance our goals of building community-based power by winning issue and election campaigns

An ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • At least two years’ experience in political or non-profit communications
  • Community organization experience strongly preferred
  • Well versed in New York State politics
  • Skills with website development and graphic design a plus
  • Experience using Adobe design software, including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator a plus
  • Experience using social media services on behalf of organizations
  • Excellent writing skills and the ability to write high quality content quickly
  • Ability to manage a multitude of tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to progressive change, movement-building and working in a multi-racial, multi-cultural environment
  • Willingness to work long or irregular hours, attend evening and weekend events, and travel, as necessary

This position is based in Albany and reports to the Communications Director.
