MFT Contract Campaign Organizer
Immediate supervisor
: President, MFT Teacher Chapter
Location: MFT Office
Hours/status: Full-time (up to 12 months) /exempt
Position closes: 9-15-19

Purpose of position:
Under the direction of the MFT Teacher Chapter President, the Contract Campaign Organizer will direct the implementation of the bargaining campaign for the 2019-2021 contract. The organizer will work to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the membership, raise expectations for what’s possible in this next round of bargaining and provide the structure and processes needed to bring about concrete gains through collective action.

Major functions and responsibilities:

  • Conduct relational organizing conversations with MFT members.
  • Coordinate and analyze a bargaining survey.
  • Use “structure tests” to assess the level of organization within the membership and to grow participation over the course of the campaign.
  • Coordinate worksite-level support for bargaining amongst the membership.
  • Assist in preparation for bargaining.
  • Plan and execute a strategic plan for outreach to key community stakeholders.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Experience in developing union contract organizing plans.
  • Experience running structure-based union contract campaigns.
  • Familiarity with the issues that educators in Minneapolis face.
  • Familiarity with the bargaining process.
  • Experience in overseeing leadership development activities for a wide range of members.
  • Experience in working with confidential and sensitive information and issues.
  • Ability to work with technology and information systems.

Minimum qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED. 
  • Five years of union organizing experience.
  • Demonstrable experience running a union contract campaign.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success in planning and executing ambitious contract campaigns.
