The Organization: Founded in 1893, the San Francisco Labor Council is the local body of the AFL-CIO and works to coordinate over 140 unions representing over 100,000 working families in the City & County of San Francisco. The mission of the SFLC is to improve the lives of workers, their families, and our communities. We accomplish this mission by building working class power through political education, organizing, and direct action in support of our affiliate unions. By building power among democratic worker organizations like unions, we empower everyday workers to fight back against greed and income inequality.

Position Summary: The San Francisco Labor Council seeks an enthusiastic, hard-working Immigration Project Outreach Coordinator to oversee our regional immigrant rights and citizenship programs. We are committed to expanding the reach of our WE RISE SF/Labor Center for Immigrant Justice to San Mateo, Alameda, and Contra Costa Counties to provide access and equity to workers who seek to become full U.S. citizens and who are in need of immigration casework and referral assistance. This outreach position will work with these Bay Area Labor Councils to educate affiliate unions, staff, and members on the services available. This is a temporary full-time position tied to a Solidarity Grant in partnership with the national AFL-CIO and other funders of WE RISE SF.

The ideal candidate will have experience with civic engagement and a demonstrated commitment to social justice and equity for workers. The Immigration Project Outreach Coordinator will need to be a confident public speaker as well as an organizer with the ability to develop and maintain relationships with regional labor leaders, workers, and civic organizations.

Reporting to the Director and Program Director of WE RISE SF and working closely with staff and officers of Bay Area Labor Councils, the WE RISE SF Immigration Project Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for implementing the AFL-CIO Solidarity Grant and other WE RISE SF outreach responsibilities.

Primary Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Develop long- and short-term organizing strategies and goals with active support and input from supervisor.
  • Recruit, train, and develop leaders to educate and move workers to participate in immigrant rights and citizenship workshops.
  • Organize and staff outreach clinics and follow-up activities with area Labor Councils and WE RISE SF.
  • Develop materials including training aids, flyers, fact sheets, etc.
  • Perform other duties as required to support the work of the organization and assist with meeting grant requirements for the Solidarity Fund and WE RISE SF funding.

Required Qualifications:

  • Commitment to social, racial, economic, and gender justice
  • Experience with union or community organizing campaigns a plus
  • Ability to work nights and weekends regularly as needed
  • Strong work ethic and personal commitment to excellence
  • Willingness to learn and be flexible and the ability to work well with others
  • Multitasking and attention to detail while managing and meeting timelines
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle

Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure
  • Respect for people from all walks of life
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience using PowerPoint preferred
  • Bilingual Spanish strongly preferred

Compensation: Salary based on experience. Generous benefits package including full family health, dental, and vision insurance and paid leave. This is a project-based position suitable for part-time or full-time work depending upon your availability and the overall project scope.
