Service Employees International Union Local 121RN(SEIU Local 121RN) is the voice for Registered Nurses and Licensed Professionals in Southern California. We represent more than 9,000 Registered Nurses and Licensed Professionals working in hospitals throughout Los Angeles, Ventura and Riverside counties. SEIU Local 121RN is looking for a Summer Research Intern. This role is ideal for those interested in learning the skills and responsibilities of a union researcher, while contributing to the labor movement and improving health care.

Intern Essential Functions:

  • Research Healthcare policy
  • Research Corporate structures
  • Assist with Financial analysis
  • Create and Analyze surveys
  • Draft memos and report
  • Contribute to strategic discussion based on the above research

Intern Specifications – Skills, Experience, Attributes:

  • Some experience in quantitative and qualitative research
  • Working knowledge of Lexis Nexis or similar search engine
  • Ability to work independently, maintain a flexible workplan, and track progress
  • Ability to write clearly and for specific audiences
  • Effective communication and ability to write clearly
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically
  • Interest and dedication in progressive causes and worker rights
  • Punctuality and reliability to complete assigned research on time

Typical Working Conditions:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the employees to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Some of these are:

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Regularly operate a computer, cell phone, and other general office equipment
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus
  • Must be able to move inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery and other office materials
  • Must be able to stand, walk, or sit for hours at a time

Hours: Successful candidates must be able to commit to a weekly schedule of at least 16 hours per week for approximately two months. Schedules can be set with research manager to allow for other responsibilities such as class or family care.

Location: SEIU 121RN office headquarters in Pasadena (near Rose bowl).

Compensation: $16 per hour.
